So, who is such a photographer and why is a professional photographer - it's good, but just a photographer - is it somehow worse?
Wikipedia write that a photographer is a person who creates photos using a camera. But the real encyclopedia differs from Wikipedia, that the latter is written by someone who wants and what wants, because this is a free encyclopedia. In fact, the photography came from the greek words light and painting - the technique of drawing by light. A photographer, respectively, a man who knows how to draw by this light. And only then, in one way or another, was possible to capture it on some surface.
In our time for the most people the photographer - it generally a retoucher. Those, the light drawing is gone, there is only a graphic editor, in which everything will "drawn" after. Of course, the development of technology does not stand still, and what was done in the film days for weeks is now possible in the graphic editor for a couple of hours. But the main thing is that themselves, the so-called photographers or just people with cameras, in pursuit of material gain do somehow and something. And the consumer does not know how it can or should be. Moreover, he himself does not know how he really wants and hopes for a photographer.
It is understandable. After coming to the store for sausage or cheese do not need to understand the intricacies and nuances of its manufacture, production, delivery. Just come and look at the cost and some subjective look. Or when buying a car. Similar. They came, looked at the cost, then touched, they touched, sat and if satisfied, then they got it. At the same time, the manufacturer of course knows and does not say that, for example, metal instead of typical 2mm uses 1.5mm, due to which the price is cheaper. Naturally for the sake of worse durability and safety.
And then the very question of professionalism arises. Profi is one that only impose a service or sell a product, and then try somehow solve the problem, or the pro is one who clearly understands how to solve the task and boldly tells about all the nuances and why this or that cost, and do not worry to lose the customer?
Also there is an opinion that a professional is only one narrowly focused specialization. Of course, one can not simultaneously be a good builder, a lawyer and a photographer. But why not be a multidirectional specialist in one area, for example, in photography.
I often hear that I'm looking at your portfolio and do not understand which direction you are specializing in. Such a question always confuses me. Well, you see in my portfolio everything that I shoot and how I do it (by the way, photographers, operators and artists favorably differ from other professions.) They can demonstrate their work beforehand. Or do you think that the pro is a person who, all his life, takes off the "red book on a blue background"? Yes, maybe he does it better than anyone else. But he does not know how to do anything else. If you ask him to shoot something else, it will still be something red and there will be something blue behind. Just because he does not know how another way. And if I understand the principle of interaction with light. What it is and how to work with it and apply it depending on the task, then why should I be limited to one direction. I like photography and I understand how all this painting works in principle. In any genre. Therefore, by and large, I do not care what to shoot, because I know how to do it. But not all photo shooting interested me, although I can.
My main areas are visible in the portfolio: wedding photography, portraits, interior photography, staging and subject photography. Furthermore. Some knowledge and skills I can transfer from one area to another, to obtain some kind of non-standard result. Such versatility allows you to think more broadly and diversify the survey. And in the case of force majeure, it possible to find absolutely impossible a solution for this situation. And if I only shot a "red book on a blue background," then in the event of an unforeseen event, I would have jammed the shooting or would have done it worse. But I put myself on a high level. So I do not work if know that can not do it.
And again we return to the beginning. So who is this professional? The one that takes the whole life of a wedding in the black and white and no more, or the one who sees the couple and understands that they are more suited to another type of shooting, no matter how they insist on their own opinion. Or that for one person will use a color frame, another person black and white, a third soft light, a fourth hard light, a fifth combination of hard light and a black and white picture, etc. After all, it is the photographer shoots and he sees these people or some objects based on his experience as such, and not otherwise. And just for this versatile and individual vision people is addressed to him.
